Google’s YouTube settles a lawsuit brought by a minor who claims the platform harmed his mental health, the plaintiff’s lawyers say. The settlement comes ahead of a second California state court trial focused on alleged social media effects on children, in what attorneys describe as part of a broader youth mental health crisis litigation wave.

According to reporting across multiple outlets, the settlement resolves an “early” or initial test case, with details described as being reached with an unnamed defendant in one account. The plaintiff’s lawyers say the case is resolved before the next trial scheduled in California.

Other technology companies are still facing similar claims. One source says the next trial proceeds against Meta, Snap and TikTok beginning in July, while additional trials are scheduled in the following months.

The reports also note that thousands of related lawsuits are pending in California state court, including more than 3,300 cases involving addiction or harm allegations against social media companies. The outlets do not provide the settlement amount or terms.
