The National Sports Commission (NSC) announces new incentives for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). In Abuja, NSC chairman Shehu Dikko says the champions of the 2026/27 NPFL season will receive a minimum prize money of ₦1 billion, increased from a previous ₦200 million. Dikko also states that the NSC, in discussions with top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), agrees to introduce a minimum wage of ₦2 million for NPFL players.
NSC representatives outline additional prize allocations for other league positions, though figures differ across reports: one outlet says runners-up receive ₦500 million and third place ₦300 million, while another reports runners-up at ₦800 million and third place at ₦700 million. The announcements are linked to efforts to improve the league’s commercial value, professionalism, and competitiveness. The NSC, NFF, and NPFL leadership also agree that maximum club licensing requirements—not just minimum standards—will be strictly enforced. Enugu Rangers won the 2025/26 NPFL season, and the start date for the next campaign has not been announced.
