The Brooklyn Nets select Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. The pick follows a separate move on Tuesday in which Brooklyn acquires Julius Randle and the No. 28 selection from the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a three-team trade. Brown is coming off a short NCAA season at Louisville in which he averages 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. He shoots 41.0% from the field and 34.4% from 3-point range. Multiple outlets also note Brown’s historic placement for Louisville: he becomes the highest-ranked Cardinals player selected in an NBA Draft since Felton Spencer was taken sixth overall in 1990. They add that Pervis Ellison was the first Louisville player to be drafted at a high level the year before, and that the program’s players have been selected less frequently at this level since then. After the pick, Brooklyn adds a perimeter-oriented guard prospect to its roster.
