An aide to APC governorship aspirant Adebayo Adelabu says criticism and “blackmail” will not derail Adelabu’s ambition ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election. In a statement issued in Ibadan, Femi Awogboro—described as a media aide to Adelabu—reacts to what he calls a recent wave of attacks on Adelabu, saying such tactics are commonly used against politicians whose influence is increasing. Awogboro compares the situation to the political attacks that President Bola Tinubu faced before the 2023 election, arguing that public support can overcome propaganda. He adds that the current level of criticism signals that rivals fear Adelabu’s growing relevance in Oyo politics.

The aide also claims Adelabu has broad-based support across youth, women, professionals and grassroots party members, describing the acceptance as built over years of engagement and service rather than something that can be manufactured or undermined through media campaigns. He dismisses suggestions that the campaigns could weaken Adelabu’s standing within the APC and urges party members not to be distracted.

Adelabu formally announced he will seek the governorship seat on the APC platform in May 2026 in Ibadan after resigning as Minister of Power.
