Central Railway will convert 12 existing non-air-conditioned (non-AC) suburban local train services on its Main Line into air-conditioned (AC) services from June 29, 2026. The change responds to rising passenger demand for more comfortable travel, particularly during peak hours. Officials say the conversion does not increase the overall number of suburban services; AC trains replace the existing non-AC services, keeping weekday suburban service frequency unchanged at 1,820.

With the new additions, Central Railway’s total weekday AC services will rise to 120, including 92 AC services on the Main Line and 28 on the Harbour Line. The Main Line AC services increase from 80 to 92, while Harbour Line AC services remain the same.

The converted services include specific peak-hour “Up” and “Down” runs connecting key stations such as CSMT, Thane, Kalyan, Kurla, Ghatkopar and Titwala. The services will run as AC locals from Monday to Saturday, while on Sundays and notified public holidays the same trains continue using non-AC rakes for operational flexibility.
