The United States imposes sanctions on eight individuals and entities, including an Indian national linked to an explosives business, over alleged support for Sudan’s civil war. The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) says the targeted networks enabled both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to expand and intensify fighting. OFAC identifies Alok Choudhari, based in Raipur, as CEO of SBL Energy Limited (also known as Amin Explosive Private Limited). The Treasury alleges the company supplied more than 200 shipments of explosives and explosive-related materials to a Sudan-based firm that maintains or supports the SAF’s arsenal. OFAC also sanctions SBL Energy Limited and additional companies based in Sudan and Egypt.
The sanctions extend to entities and individuals connected to Sudan’s defense-industrial supply chains, including Sudan’s Defense Industries System (DIS), and firms alleged to be tied to DIS-linked structures. The Treasury also designates Ports Engineering Company Ltd, a state-owned construction firm in Port Sudan, citing its alleged sourcing of military-related items during the conflict. Separately, OFAC targets a transnational recruitment network that allegedly recruits former Colombian military personnel to fight alongside the RSF.
