IIT Bombay and the State University of New York (SUNY) Old Westbury announce a new academic and research partnership aimed at expanding engineering education and related research opportunities in New York. The institutions sign a letter of intent in New York, with IIT Bombay Director Shireesh Kedare and SUNY Old Westbury President Timothy E Sams signing the document in the presence of India’s Consul General in New York Binaya Pradhan. The collaboration is set to support new educational and research offerings at different levels, initially focused on science and engineering and emerging areas including artificial intelligence. The early-stage work includes faculty and researcher visits and exchanges, joint research activities, and plans for joint conferences or symposia, with development of degree programs expected to follow. Indian officials including Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Secretary of Higher Education Vineet Joshi, and Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra participate virtually in the announcement. Dharmendra Pradhan welcomes the initiative, describing it as aligned with India’s higher-education goals and highlighting strengthened India–US academic ties. The partnership is presented as part of broader efforts to deepen bilateral research and higher-education cooperation.
