Australian citizen Simon Peter Carman is charged in Thailand with the murder of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla, whose body was found concealed in a suitcase in Pattaya. Multiple outlets report that Carman, 46, is accused after Thai police discovered the body and linked it to him. Authorities say Carman met the girl in Thailand’s Pattaya red-light district and later transported or concealed the body in a suitcase.
Police allege that after the killing Carman continued with day-to-day activities, including going out, washing his clothes, and speaking with neighbours, according to ABC Australia. Several reports also reference CCTV footage released by Pattaya City police that shows Carman’s movements after the time the girl was last seen, including images of him in a condo lobby and later dragging the suitcase from the building.
CNA and other coverage say Carman faces multiple charges beyond murder, including concealment of a body, moving or destroying a body, and taking a minor for sexual purposes. Carman denies the charges and, according to 7News Australia, claims self-defence.
