The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces a planned power disruption on Sunday due to maintenance work on key electricity grid infrastructure. Multiple reports say the outage will affect parts of Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Yobe states. They also state that Gazaoua in the Niger Republic, which receives electricity through Nigeria’s national grid, is included in the areas to be impacted. According to TCN’s communications, the maintenance is scheduled for the Kumbotso 330-kilovolt transmission substation in Kano. The work is described as upgrades to transmission equipment, including replacing 350mm² conductors with higher-capacity 800mm² conductors and upgrading bus jumpers at the substation. During the maintenance window, electricity distribution companies connected to the affected transmission resources—including Kano’s distribution network and parts of others operating in the region—will be unable to offtake power, leading to temporary loss of supply in the affected locations. TCN characterizes the outage as temporary and necessary for critical infrastructure improvements intended to strengthen the transmission network and support longer-term reliability. The outlets note that the reports provide general notice for Sunday but do not specify an exact duration.
