The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has not yet received the Certified True Copy (CTC) of a Federal High Court judgment that set aside an earlier order directing the commission to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party. INEC’s Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser states that the commission is aware of media reports about the June 26 ruling, but cannot take a final or public position until its legal department receives and reviews the certified judgment.
The Lokoja Federal High Court decision is reported to have overturned the earlier December 10, 2025 order that had required INEC to register the NDC. The court’s action is linked to the failure to join the Peace Movement Party (PMP) in the original suit, which the court found impacted PMP’s rights, including its claim related to a disputed logo.
After the ruling, the NDC rejected the outcome and says it is appealing. The party’s response includes statements that it remains legally recognized pending the appeal process. INEC indicates it will make an “informed, lawful decision” once the CTC is formally obtained and studied.
