Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says India’s Jan Suraksha schemes—PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY—have settled claims worth about ₹25,160 crore since their launch in 2015, nearly 11 years ago. The schemes are described as providing affordable life insurance, accident insurance and pension support, with a focus on under-served and vulnerable sections of society.
Sitharaman cites enrolment figures across the three programmes: over 27 crore enrolments under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), about 58 crore enrolments under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and around 9 crore enrolments under Atal Pension Yojana (APY). Both reports note that the schemes were launched on May 9, 2015. The coverage highlights that the schemes are designed to offer financial protection against life’s uncertainties and to support long-term financial resilience through insurance and pension benefits.
The reports present these figures as part of the 11th-anniversary updates on the performance and reach of the flagship Jan Suraksha initiatives.
