The Philippine weather bureau (Pagasa) is monitoring two low-pressure areas (LPAs) within the Philippine area of responsibility, with different outlooks for tropical cyclone development. In its 5 a.m. forecast, Pagasa says an LPA affecting Eastern Visayas and parts of Mindanao has a low chance of developing into a cyclone within the next 24 hours. While meteorologists do not rule out possible development in the following days, they indicate the near-term risk is small.
Separately, Pagasa also reports a different LPA off Masbate that has a high chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez says the LPA was observed over the coastal waters of San Pascual at around 3 a.m. Pagasa notes the system could intensify whether it passes over land or crosses into the West Philippine Sea.
Another Pagasa update highlights that the LPA currently located about 495 kilometers east of Surigao City may develop into a tropical cyclone by Wednesday, with a medium likelihood of intensification as it moves through the Southern Luzon-Visayas area and into the West Philippine Sea.
