Former Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Vatsala Agarwal is arrested by the Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in connection with an alleged multi-crore corruption case involving medical procurement. Multiple reports say the case centres on irregularities in purchases of medicines, surgical items and medical equipment valued in the “hundreds of crores” of rupees, processed through the Central Procurement Agency (CPA), which functions under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The Times of India and Free Press Journal report that the probe looks at whether procurement procedures were manipulated, including potential changes to tender specifications and irregularities across the procurement cycle. Investigators examine documentation related to tendering, technical and financial evaluation, contract allocation, supply verification, inspection processes, approvals and payments, with an aim to identify where alleged rules were bypassed and whether public funds were misused. The Free Press Journal also reports that the investigation began after the Vigilance Department flagged suspicious transactions and possible violations, and it notes that Dr Agarwal had been under suspension at the time of arrest. It also mentions that another official was arrested earlier in the matter, with further questioning intended to trace additional links in the procurement process.
