Shraddha Kapoor’s upcoming biopic, titled “Eetha,” which depicts the life of renowned Tamasha and Lavani dancer Vithabai Narayangaonkar, has drawn controversy over its name. According to reports, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Film and Cultural Department has objected to the title, arguing that a biopic centered on Vithabai’s life should carry her name. The NCP says titles such as “Vitha” or “Vithabai” would more clearly acknowledge her contribution to Maharashtra’s Lavani and Tamasha traditions and expresses its view that Vithabai’s legacy should be preserved and honored through the film’s branding.
Vithabai Narayangaonkar’s family has joined the demand. Her sons, Kailash and Rajesh Narayangaonkar, and her grandson Mohit Narayangaonkar are reported to have expressed disappointment with the title and urged the makers to reconsider it. The makers, including director Laxman Utekar and production house Maddock Films, have not publicly responded to the objection so far. “Eetha” is scheduled for theatrical release on August 28, 2026, and stars Shraddha Kapoor, with other cast members including Randeep Hooda and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub.
