Schools across London are trialling virtual reality (VR) headsets to help pupils manage stress linked to exams, attention issues and challenging home circumstances, according to multiple reports. In Sutton, all 15 secondary schools use VR headsets supplied by technology firm Phase Space as part of a pilot programme. The trial is carried out with a local NHS mental health trust and is designed to provide a calming experience for students reporting anxiety ahead of exams and symptoms associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The initiative also targets stress that students say is driven by difficulties at home.
One outlet reports that the programme is intended to offer immediate stress relief, citing student feedback that many pupils experience a rapid reduction in stress levels after using the devices. The coverage describes the trial as an early effort to support pupils’ mental wellbeing, using VR content in a structured school setting, and does not report results beyond early feedback figures.
