Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal says the “Made in India” label stands for India’s reputation and a commitment to quality, framing it as a national responsibility rather than only a corporate metric. Speaking during a business plenary session in London on June 27, Goyal cited the global performance of Florence Shoe Company to illustrate how Indian entrepreneurs strengthen “Brand India” through manufacturing standards.
Goyal shared an example involving a luxury Hugo Boss shoe seen at Cairo Airport. He said an international customer examined the shoe’s label and found it carried the words “Made in India.” The shoes, he noted, are manufactured by Florence Shoe Company’s founder Aqeel Ahmed Panaruna, whose operations are based in Ambur, Tamil Nadu. Goyal used the incident to argue that a product’s country-of-origin label effectively represents the country to global buyers.
The accounts present Goyal’s remarks as support for “Made in India” branding tied to quality manufacturing and export competitiveness, using Florence Shoe Company’s international reach as a case study.
