Hezbollah’s secretary-general Naim Qassem formally rejects a US-mediated trilateral framework agreement signed by Israel and Lebanon, calling it “null and void.” In a statement, Qassem says the pact humiliates Lebanon and prioritizes Israeli and US demands over Lebanese sovereignty. He argues the agreement bypasses protections he attributes to an Iran–US Memorandum of Understanding, which he describes as requiring immediate, permanent hostilities cessation, full Israeli withdrawal, and guarantees of Lebanon’s territorial integrity. Qassem also criticizes provisions that tie Israeli withdrawal to Hezbollah disarmament, especially concerns about pilot arrangements in zones near the “Yellow Line,” where Lebanese Army deployment is reportedly subject to Israeli monitoring. Hezbollah signals it will continue resistance activities and says it is pursuing international and Arab pressure to compel adherence to the first clause of the memorandum.
Despite the framework signing, the Israeli army detonates a tunnel in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese state media, describing it as containing weapons and launch infrastructure and saying it informed US representatives in advance. Lebanese authorities and health officials report injuries, while Hezbollah says the actions violate the ceasefire and reserves the right to respond. Both sides point to the agreement’s conditionality as a key point of contention, amid broader political opposition in Lebanon.
