Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk starts an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, joining the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest that seeks the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Protesters, mostly students and youth, gather at the site, with several farmer leaders also present. The demonstrations begin with a two-minute silence and include tributes paid by Wangchuk and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before arriving at Jantar Mantar.
CJP alleges that the education system lacks transparency and accountability, extending its demands beyond a single examination. Dipke publicly calls for Pradhan to step down over alleged examination irregularities, including claims connected to the NEET-UG controversy. The protest also includes calls for compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide and accusations that police did not act against attacks on protest volunteers.
The NEET-UG dispute continues after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the exam initially held on May 3 and conducted a nationwide re-examination on June 21 with enhanced security. Meanwhile, Dipke alleges that farmer leaders in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab are placed under house arrest to prevent them from joining the protest, and no immediate official response is reported.
