Prime Minister Narendra Modi says India’s vision for the Indian Ocean is to make it an “ocean of opportunity,” linking maritime security with economic prosperity. Speaking after delegation-level talks in Seychelles with President Patrick Herminie, Modi states that the Indian Ocean is a shared home and that its security, sustainability and prosperity are shared responsibilities.
Modi also presents the vision as part of India’s MAHASAGAR framework—short for “Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.” He adds that partnerships should not be based on size, but on mutual respect and trust.
According to the reports, the talks review the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and cover regional and international issues of mutual interest. The two leaders discuss efforts to make bilateral economic cooperation more resilient and future-ready, including exploring new opportunities for industries in both countries. They also discuss enhancing connectivity between India and Seychelles, as part of broader cooperation. Modi’s remarks come during a three-day official visit to Seychelles.
