The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Rite Foods Limited will recognise seven outstanding Nigerian undergraduates with ₦5 million each, according to multiple reports. The awards are part of an inaugural Academic Excellence Recognition Award Ceremony planned to take place in Lagos. JAMB says the selection focuses on academic performance in the 2025 admission cycle, particularly high scores in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) alongside strong results from Post-UTME or institutional screening exercises at the recipients’ universities.
JAMB’s announcement, as reported by outlets, indicates the process is merit-based and managed transparently by the board. Six of the awardees come from Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, with an additional seventh recipient also identified as the highest-performing admitted student living with a disability. The universities named among the beneficiaries include the University of Lagos, University of Uyo, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia, University of Maiduguri, and Federal University of Technology Minna—while reporting also notes two recipients from the University of Lagos in the maiden edition.
The ceremony is expected to draw more than 300 participants, including education officials and stakeholders.
