Undergrad, a student publication at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), stops operating after 74 years following difficulties recruiting enough people to form a new editorial board. The magazine, which is associated with the Hong Kong University Students’ Union (HKUSU) and is described as one of the city’s longest-running campus news outlets, announces its shutdown in a statement posted on social media and reported by multiple outlets. The publication’s closure takes effect immediately.
According to reporting, the students’ union behind Undergrad says it attempted to recruit editorial board members twice since last September for its 2025 committee, but it did not succeed. With no sufficient number of recruits to establish the board, Undergrad says it can no longer continue its operations.
Undergrad was founded in 1952 and has been run for decades by HKUSU, serving as an ongoing campus publication at HKU.
