South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expanding a yearlong “Korean Story Festival” that uses overseas embassies and consulates as cultural venues for monthly Korean film screenings and related interactive events. The ministry says more than 60 diplomatic missions worldwide—covering regions including the Americas, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Africa—are participating this year. Under the initiative, each mission selects Korean films and plans accompanying activities tied to themes in the movies, with the goal of presenting everyday aspects of Korean life rather than focusing only on mainstream popular culture.
According to the ministry, audiences can engage with elements of Korean daily culture highlighted in the film lineup, including food, beauty, language learning and other cultural experiences. The program’s monthly structure is designed to reach local viewers consistently across different countries. The ministry also reports that, as of June, 21 missions had already hosted the festival, with additional missions scheduled to hold events in the second half of the year. In some locations, including Switzerland, Norway and Jordan, missions collaborate with local film festivals to screen Korean cinema.
The ministry says schedules and event details are posted through participating missions’ websites and social media channels.
