Doctors in Anambra state, Nigeria, threaten to down tools following the abduction of a fellow medical professional. The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Anambra says a member, identified by Premium Times as Edwin Emegakor, the medical director of Crown Multi-Specialist Hospital in Nkpor, was abducted by unidentified men in uniform on the evening of 7 May after he attended to patients. According to the NMA, the association is issuing an ultimatum for the doctor to be freed. The Punch reports the NMA says it will down tools if the abducted doctor is not released within 48 hours. Vanguard adds that the association will convene an emergency meeting within the same 48-hour period to review progress made in securing the doctor’s release. The reports describe the abduction and the subsequent threat of collective action, but do not provide details on the investigation, the abductors’ identities, or whether any arrests have been made.
