India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate says teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is ready for international cricket, despite being left out of India’s recent T20I tour in Ireland. The comments come after India suffered a shock T20I series loss to Ireland, including a 0-2 defeat and a second match decided by one run. Ten Doeschate acknowledges that Sooryavanshi’s talent and form justify attention, but he emphasizes that selection follows the team’s established process and that existing players should be given an extended run. He also points to the importance of confidence and continuity within the squad.

The omission has drawn debate from former India batter Sunil Gavaskar, who questioned why a 15-year-old prospect did not debut earlier, suggesting a move into tougher assignments may have come too late. Ten Doeschate, while urging patience, indicates there is “no question” about Sooryavanshi’s ability and that India expects to involve him as the schedule progresses. The next India T20 series begins July 1 in Chester-le-Street against England. If Sooryavanshi debuts during that tour, he would be India’s youngest international debutant, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s age at debut.
