The United States says a high-level meeting between US and Iranian representatives is set for Doha on Tuesday, with special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, in attendance. Multiple reports cite Trump’s social media post on Monday, in which he says Iran requested the meeting and that it will take place in the Qatari capital, without providing additional details.

Alongside the expected high-level talks, the US also indicates that technical-level discussions will continue on the sidelines. Reporting also attributes the confirmation of the pair’s participation to the White House, including remarks from the press secretary.

The meeting comes after a June 17 US-Iran memorandum of understanding aimed at ending several months of conflict, including commitments to cease hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Sources also note that the broader effort faces renewed strain following recent tit-for-tat attacks involving commercial vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz, with both the US and Iran accusing each other of violating interim understandings.
