Tidal says it will not ban AI-generated music outright, but it will stop monetizing music that is wholly or fully generated by AI. Starting July 15, Tidal will use automated tools to identify tracks that are 100% AI-generated and will label them for listeners using an icon. For artists and uploaders, those identified tracks will not be eligible for royalties. Tidal also says the policy applies to its Tidal Upload independent artist program. In addition to removing royalty eligibility, Tidal’s plan includes cutting off other monetization routes tied to the platform, including direct-to-fan sales and related monetization features for tracks it categorizes as AI-generated. Multiple outlets report that the effort is part of the broader music-industry response to AI content, with Tidal positioning the policy as a way to inform listeners and protect artists. Tidal’s announcement frames the approach as transparency and monetization restrictions rather than a full removal of AI tracks from the catalog.
