OpenClaw, a self-hosted open-source AI agent, is launching a native iOS app for iPhone and iPad, with Apple Watch support. The app is designed to work with an existing OpenClaw Gateway running on a user’s local Mac or PC. Users pair the iOS app to the gateway using QR code or setup code and then access the assistant from iPhone through text chat and real-time voice “Talk mode.” The iOS app also supports requesting and reviewing action approvals from the user, as well as push-based notifications for workflow “wakes” and gateway/node status updates.
With the gateway connection, OpenClaw can integrate the selected AI model (via API keys such as Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini) with content available on the gateway machine. Sources describe capability for device-aware automation and sharing of text, links, and media from iOS into OpenClaw. The iOS app can optionally enable device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. Both outlets note that OpenClaw can present security and safety risks, including susceptibility to prompt injection and the need for broad system permissions on gateway devices.
