Julian Chang, the People’s National Party (PNP) councillor for the Savanna-la-Mar Division in Westmoreland, resigns from the party, the PNP confirms. In a statement, the PNP thanks Chang for her service to residents of the division and for her contributions while she was a member of the party, and says it wishes her well in future endeavours.

The resignation comes amid earlier sexual harassment allegations made by Chang this year against Dwayne Vaz, the PNP Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central. Vaz has refuted the allegations, according to reporting cited by the PNP.

Chang also claims she was removed as chair of the Savanna-la-Mar Division. Vaz’s attorneys have disputed that account, stating that elections were held and that Chang was not nominated for the chair position.

The PNP says that, in good faith, it pursued “considerable efforts” through its internal structures to address and mediate concerns between Chang and other constituency leadership, but that those efforts were not successful.
