British pop singer Dua Lipa sues Samsung Electronics in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, seeking more than $15 million in damages. Lipa alleges Samsung used a copyrighted photograph of her on cardboard television boxes, including a prominent image of her face, as part of a retail marketing campaign intended to support TV sales. Her legal filing accuses Samsung of multiple violations, including copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and infringement of publicity rights, and it seeks a permanent injunction.

Samsung denies wrongdoing. In a statement, the company says the image was provided by a third-party content partner for Samsung’s free streaming service, Samsung TV Plus, and that the image was used in 2025 to reflect the content available through that service. Samsung says it received explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been secured for use of the image, including on retail boxes. Samsung also says it respects Lipa and artists’ intellectual property rights and remains open to resolution with Lipa’s legal team.
