The Amarnath Yatra 2026 is scheduled to run from July 3 to August 28, spanning 57 days, under the supervision of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB). Pilgrims are required to complete advance registration, with registration opening on April 15, 2026. Registration can be done online through the SASB portal or app, and also at designated authorized bank branches. The registration fee is ₹150 per pilgrim. After registering, pilgrims receive a Yatra Permit, which is mandatory for participation.
The Yatra involves trekking to the Amarnath Cave Shrine, where the naturally formed ice Shivling is worshipped. Sources describe two officially approved routes: the Baltal route and the Pahalgam route. The Baltal route is shorter (about 14–16 km) but steeper and typically takes one to two days. The Pahalgam route is longer (about 36–48 km) and is generally completed in three to five days.
Both sources note documentation requirements including a compulsory medical fitness certificate (CHC) and government-issued photo identification, along with an RFID card for security and tracking. Security arrangements are reported as strengthened, with significant deployment of Central Armed Police Forces and traffic regulations to manage movement along the routes and base camps.
