Uber announces new safety features for its ride-hailing service in India, rolling them out in an event in New Delhi on Monday. The company introduces “Record My Ride,” described as an encrypted in-cab recording feature intended to improve emergency response for riders and drivers. Uber also launches an in-app “Ambulance Assistance” option for emergencies after a crash, developed in partnership with Dial 4242, which is described as a dedicated ambulance support line.

Uber further adds tools aimed at reducing distractions and improving user control. It includes “Don’t Type & Drive,” which prevents drivers from typing while the vehicle is moving, and it adds “Set Your Own PIN,” allowing riders to set a custom trip-verification personal identification number. Uber says these updates strengthen its existing safety suite by improving emergency response, limiting driver distraction, and enhancing the trip verification process.
