Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo calls on Nigeria’s 36 state governors to take greater responsibility for tackling insecurity within their states, rather than placing the primary burden on President Bola Tinubu. Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ interactive session in Okaijesan Town Hall in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Okpebholo argues that security is a shared responsibility across government levels. He says the President cannot personally address insecurity in all states at once and that state governors should protect lives and property in their jurisdictions. Okpebholo criticizes what he describes as unfair criticism of the President focused solely on security challenges, saying it overlooks the constitutional roles of state governments. He also questions opposition figures who previously held executive positions, pointing to their records on security while in office. The governor maintains that increased state-level commitment and action can help reduce insecurity across the country, adding that sub-national responsibility is necessary to address the problem effectively.
