A roadside peepal tree uproots during rains and crashes onto a school bus in Chembur, Mumbai, trapping students and triggering a rescue operation. The incident occurs on Tuesday afternoon near Chembur’s Road No. 11, close to Heritage Pride, around 2:58 pm to about 3 pm, according to accounts citing the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB). The bus, operated by Universal High School, bears registration MH03/CV-7439 and is carrying children when the tree falls and crushes part of the vehicle. Reports describe multiple children trapped inside; some accounts say 12 children are evacuated, while another states 18 students were trapped. Rescue teams, including the fire brigade, local residents, and the bus conductor, work to free the children and clear the area, with traffic disrupted as the tree blocks the bus. Several students are taken to Zen Hospital. One source reports one 11-year-old student, identified as Vihan Shrivastav, dies later after sustaining critical injuries, while other reports describe four other children injured, with some said to be in stable condition. The exact reason the tree uproots is not yet officially determined, and investigations are underway.
