At least 37 children remain unaccounted for following Monday’s terrorist attack on Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.The assault occurred around 9 a.m. while students were sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) exam. Two teachers were killed, and several students were abducted.Parents told PUNCH Online that the state government has opened a register for families to report missing persons. Mbula Bura, whose 19-year-old daughter Esther was abducted, said 37 names had already been recorded. Another parent, Emmanuel Dari, whose 16-year-old daughter Lucy was taken, described the ordeal as devastating, noting that families have been unable to sleep since the attack.The Borno State Commissioner for Education, Lawan Wakilbe, visited the community to assess the situation, while residents confirmed that multiple students, including relatives of Bitrus Milnda, were among those abducted.The Nigerian Army reported rescuing 10 victims, both teachers and students during a firefight with the attackers. According to Capt. Muhammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai, troops engaged the terrorists near Daggu, recovering seven motorcycles. Sadly, one soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force lost their lives in the operation.Authorities say efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
