Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant denies a casteist remark that is circulating on social media and is being attributed to him. According to multiple reports, the CJI’s office says the quote is fabricated and that Justice Surya Kant never made the statement shown in the viral posts.
In his response, the CJI characterizes the act of creating and sharing such a quote as dishonest and as a form of social incitement, describing it as “vile, brazen and mischievous.” The office also warns that legal action may be pursued against those responsible for manufacturing or disseminating the fake attribution.
The reports describe the clarification as part of the CJI’s effort to correct misinformation that links his name to casteist language. Both outlets present the same core account: a false social media quote is attributed to the highest judicial office, and the CJI’s office publicly refutes it while signalling possible legal consequences.
