NTPC is preparing to submit its first nuclear power feasibility report to India’s relevant authorities, including the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), to seek approval to proceed with its first standalone nuclear project. Multiple reports say the company is working to obtain this nod after completing or advancing early feasibility work as part of its planned entry into nuclear generation.
NTPC’s approach involves identifying potential locations and expanding feasibility studies across states. One report states NTPC has identified land in Bihar and plans to set up nuclear capacity of 30 GW across 14 states by 2047, aiming to contribute to the government’s target of 100 GW of atomic power by that year. The plan envisages initial units of 700 MW each, and further projects in other states are at feasibility or study stages.
Another report adds that NTPC is looking to build at least 2 GW of nuclear capacity by 2032 and is conducting feasibility studies in additional states. It also notes that the Bihar government has reportedly approved NTPC’s request to conduct a feasibility study in the Banka district, aligning with NTPC’s broader multi-state expansion.
