Chinese robotics firm UBTech unveils its Uworld consumer brand and launches the U1 series of full-size, hyper-realistic humanoid robots aimed at companionship. The robots are designed to live alongside people, providing natural conversation and emotional responsiveness. UBTech describes the U1 as capable of engaging users through speech, facial expression and tone analysis, with an “emotional AI” system that adjusts conversations based on a user’s apparent emotional state. Multiple outlets describe lifelike physical features including silicone exterior skin, realistic hair, and coordinated movement across body parts, supported by numerous servo joints.

The U1 is offered in male and female versions and in multiple tiers—Lite, Pro, and Ultra—under different prices reported by outlets. Pre-orders open in early June on JD.com, with a deposit required and deliveries expected to start in mid-September. UBTech says user data, including personal memories and conversation history, is stored locally on the device with encryption rather than uploaded to the cloud.

Sources also note limitations: the robot is not positioned for household chores or complex navigation over uneven terrain, and it restricts user ability to freely program new behaviors beyond communication and companionship.
