Both outlets report that Yates sustained a concussion in the incident, which involved nearly 30 riders during the Saturday stage held on rain-soaked roads. The crash occurs on the 221km route from Burgas to Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria, where Yates also suffers physical injuries including abrasions and a laceration to his left ear.
According to the same reports, additional riders are affected by the incident and are kept under medical supervision. Jay Vine and Marc Soler are still under observation following the crash. Yates’ withdrawal comes after medical assessment for the concussion and related injuries. The reports indicate that further updates may follow after stage three, but the immediate outcome is Yates’ removal from the race due to his head injury. The Giro continues without him.
