The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) removes former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, former House of Representatives member Gbenga Elegbeleye, and 24 other National Assembly candidates from its final list submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to reports across outlets, the removals are carried out by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). The affected candidates include those seeking senatorial and House of Representatives seats, with one outlet specifying that six senatorial candidates and 19 candidates for the House are dropped from the final list.

Premium Times reports that the APC says the decision follows the review of recommendations submitted by its Primary Election Appeal Committee. Vanguard similarly reports that the NWC drops Suswam and others from the final list the party submitted to INEC. Daily Post Nigeria adds that the changes reflect updates to the party’s final list provided to the electoral commission.

The outlets all report that the substitutions relate to the party’s candidate list process for the 2027 National Assembly elections, as reflected in what APC files with INEC.
