The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dropped former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam and five other senatorial candidates, along with 19 House of Representatives aspirants, from its final list of candidates submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The revised list, which affects seven senatorial districts and 19 federal constituencies, was forwarded to INEC following recommendations from the party’s Primary Election Appeal Committee. The changes impact states including Abia, Benue, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, and Taraba. In a letter jointly signed by APC National Chairman Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda and National Secretary Sen. Ajibola Basiru, the party stated that the National Working Committee (NWC) reviewed and approved the appeal committee’s reports as its final position on the affected constituencies.The letter read in part: “Following the determination of appeals from the recently concluded primary elections, the reports of the Appeal Committee were reviewed and subsequently considered and approved by the party’s NWC… We hereby transmit the enclosed list of the approved candidates for your records and necessary action.”Notable candidates who retained their tickets or were cleared include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and others. Several serving governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe) were also cleared to contest senatorial seats. For the House of Representatives, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and other prominent figures remain on the list.Political parties are expected to complete the uploading of candidates’ details on INEC’s nomination portal by July 10, 2026. The APC’s move is part of the ongoing process of ratifying primary results and complying with electoral guidelines ahead of the 2027 general elections.
