Brittany Clark, 31, dies after a suspected alligator attack in a Florida river, according to multiple reports. She and two companions—including her boyfriend, Chance Allison—are swimming or cooling off in the Econlockhatchee River near Seminole County’s Little Big Econ State Forest when an alligator suddenly attacks her in shallow water described as about three feet deep. Several outlets report the animal rips off both of Clark’s arms and performs a “death roll” during the assault.

Allison tries to fight the alligator and rescue Clark, while her best friend also witnesses the incident and later describes the attack. Accounts based on 911 audio say Allison tells dispatchers she is losing a lot of blood and asks for emergency responders to hurry. Clark is taken to shore before being transported for medical care, but she dies en route to a nearby hospital, as reported by a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson.

Authorities capture and kill alligators at or near the location, with samples collected and the investigation remaining active.
