Police officers called to the case of Henry Nowak, 18, face a gross misconduct investigation by the police watchdog after he died in Southampton following a stabbing in December 2025. Multiple reports say Nowak was handcuffed while he was seriously injured and later collapsed and died. BBC and the Evening Standard report that officers treated him as a suspect after he was handcuffed as he lay dying from stab wounds. The Guardian adds that during the incident, Vickrum Digwa told police he had been the victim of a racist attack, which contributed to officers handcuffing Nowak and treating him as a suspect rather than responding as if he were the victim, even though Nowak reportedly told officers he had been stabbed and that he could not breathe. All outlets agree the investigation focuses on how officers responded at the scene and includes two officers being referred for examination under gross misconduct procedures by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
