Senate President Godswill Akpabio warns the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, against naming roads in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after individuals without proper authorization. Speaking at the inauguration of newly completed roads in Gaduwa District, Abuja, as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office, Akpabio says roads built with federal government funds should not be renamed after people such as “your mother” or other local individuals. He argues that naming rights should align with the funding source and follow due approval processes, adding that the party paying for projects should set the terms.
The warning echoes earlier remarks by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who had told Maikalangu that only roads funded by the AMAC could be named at his discretion. Akpabio also commends Wike for enforcing accountability in project management, and stresses that federally funded projects should not be attributed to individuals outside the established rules.
