The United States will not renew the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) in its current form, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Wednesday, noting the renewal deadline has passed. Multiple outlets report that the Trump administration is choosing a different approach rather than extending the pact through a renewed agreement as negotiated during Trump’s first term.

According to Greer, USMCA remains in force for another decade, assuming no participating country decides to exit the deal. Instead of pursuing a full renewal, the administration plans to conduct annual reviews of the agreement. Bloomberg and others describe the shift as potentially increasing uncertainty for companies that rely on stable, long-term rules for production and trade across North America.

The reports also frame the change as part of a broader effort to allow ongoing renegotiation and adjustments, with future negotiations potentially becoming more frequent and contentious than under a longer renewal cycle.
