The Obidient Movement criticises First Lady Remi Tinubu for remarks that imply university graduates can be reduced to selling akara and roasting corn. Speaking on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” on Wednesday, the group’s national coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, says such language undermines the value of education and the aspirations of Nigerian youths. Tanko argues that people who have studied at the university should not be treated as manual or low-status vendors, and he frames the comment as part of a wider narrative that the Obidient Movement says should be challenged.
In the same interview, Tanko links the criticism to the political agenda associated with Peter Obi, whom the group says is working to change how education translates into opportunity and income. He points to Obi’s tenure in Anambra State, saying it brought improvements in education and security. The Obidient Movement also argues that leaders should prioritise policies that create jobs and ensure graduates are rewarded according to their academic training.
