A Federal High Court in Abuja adjourns Nollywood actor Emeka Ike’s N10 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Lere Olayinka, a media aide to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. The matter, listed as suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1272/2026, comes up before Justice S.O. Ibrahim. Court proceedings on Thursday end with a short adjournment until July 22, after counsel to the plaintiff told the court that Olayinka had filed and served a response. The plaintiff’s lawyer also states hearing notices were served on both respondents but that INEC was absent, and asks for time to allow INEC to participate. Counsel for Olayinka does not oppose the adjournment and indicates readiness to proceed, but argues INEC cannot be compelled to appear and urges the case be fixed for hearing.

The suit follows allegations that Ike’s voter registration details were unlawfully disclosed on Olayinka’s official X account. Ike claims the information was posted without his consent after being accessed from a restricted INEC administrative portal. He seeks damages, removal of the social media post, and a public apology. INEC says the incident resulted from misuse of authorised internal credentials rather than a cyberattack on its database.
