Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announces it will boycott the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) general election, citing ongoing political and social unrest in the region. The party says it is choosing not to participate “under the current circumstances” and instead plans to stand with people amid continuing turmoil. PTI’s AJK regional president and former prime minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi makes the announcement in a statement circulated to the media. He links the decision to solidarity with Kashmiris’ aspirations, including the right to self-determination and democratic rights.

Niazi points to sit-ins and protests in Rawalakot and other areas, and he attributes the escalation to force used by the government. He also raises concerns about economic distress, including an allegation of suspended food supply lines from Punjab to AJK. The PTI argues the electoral process lacks credibility while representative voices face arrests and media and freedom of expression are constrained.

PTI says it will stay away from the polls until normalcy returns, grievances of political and public forces are addressed, and demands raised by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) are resolved. It also calls for revising the election schedule to create a level playing field.
