Investigators in the UK say they have uncovered a “truly international” network using online forums and chat groups to arrange drug-facilitated sexual assaults against women. The National Crime Agency (NCA) says offenders sedate victims before sexual assault and also discuss arranging assaults to be filmed. Multiple outlets report that at least eight arrests are linked to the network, with investigators describing offenders’ ability to coordinate attacks through online platforms.

According to reporting, law enforcement in the UK is working to identify additional suspects and victims, including people who may not yet have been identified by police. The Guardian describes the crimes as often involving victims in trusting relationships, while other coverage highlights the “deeply concerning” nature of how these networks operate across borders.

The reports also say the operation is the subject of coordinated efforts involving prosecutors and other agencies, and that evidence gathered through the online networks is being used to support further criminal proceedings.
