The US Army says the remains of two American soldiers who went missing during military exercises in Morocco have been recovered, ending a multinational search that used air, naval and other assets. According to reports, 1st Lt. Kendrick Lamont Key Jr., 27, of Richmond, Virginia, disappeared on May 2 near Cap Draa during a recreational hike while he was off duty in connection with African Lion, described as one of the largest US-led drills involving NATO allies and African partners. US Army Europe and Africa says Moroccan searchers found Key’s remains in the Atlantic Ocean near the location where he went missing. The second missing soldier, Spc Mariyah Symone Collington, 19, of Taveres, Florida, is also reported to have died in a related incident. The Guardian reports she and Key fell off a cliff during the hike. With both soldiers now recovered, the search operation concludes, though the reports continue to refer to the incident as a missing-person case that resulted from the circumstances surrounding the off-duty hike during the exercise period.
