Delhi Police dismantle an alleged expiry-date tampering racket in Okhla and arrest seven people, including the owner, according to reports from NDTV and The Times of India. The accused reportedly purchase near-expiry and expired branded food and beverage items at low prices and then alter the labels to make them appear fresh. Investigators allege the group uses chemical thinners to remove the original manufacturing and expiry dates from the packaging, and employs specialised machinery for the process. After erasing the existing dates, the items are reportedly repackaged with new expiry dates. The authorities seize more than Rs 20 lakh worth of the tampered products, including popular beverages and food items. The police also recover machinery used in the operation. NDTV reports the products seized are worth about Rs 20 lakh, while the Times of India specifies that the racket is linked to sales through retail and online channels across the country. The cases are part of an ongoing police effort against food adulteration and fraudulent labeling.
