Former vice president Atiku Abubakar gives President Bola Tinubu a seven-day ultimatum to order an independent investigation into the alleged PFIPC scandal. Multiple outlets report that Atiku warns that failure to act within the stated period will deepen public suspicion about whether influential figures in government benefited from what he describes as a broader institutional credibility crisis, not just an isolated forgery case. Atiku’s position, as relayed through statements attributed to his spokesperson Phrank Shaibu, is that the controversy involves the way the PFIPC was allegedly recognised and facilitated through official processes, including budget and civil service procedures. He argues that the Presidency’s explanation that the agency is fictitious is inadequate and calls for a transparent, comprehensive probe, including forensic review of documents, approvals and the officials involved.
The reports also note that the dispute is already tied to legal action. The Presidency has described PFIPC as non-existent and has labelled its alleged Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, an impostor facing criminal prosecution for forgery and impersonation. Atiku’s ultimatum adds further political pressure as the matter remains under discussion between the parties and is before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
